Paterno tried to dictate the terms to the bitter end, to let him finish out the season.
His "apology/statement" of 9 hours ago was hilarious in its transparency.
"I'll retire at the end of the season, so you should stop discussing firing me immediately. To make things easier, of course."
What a joke.

Selfish, huge ego and looking out for himself to the bitter end. Nice.
