I feel that way about Hollywood/mid-town. I hate going there.
Westside is fine depending on where/when you have to travel. If you are trying to head east M-Th night, forget it. It routinely takes me minimum a half hour to travel about 2 miles. But that is if you are stuck taking either the 10 or Pico/Olympic/SM/Wilshire/Sunset. Further south there are some better ways but when I have rehearsal in the valley with 7pm downbeat I leave the westside by 5:30 so that I can make it on time. Once or twice a month I can deal with it. If I had to do it every day, I'd move...
I live in SM, work in Playa Vista. 15 min surface street commute.
