Thanks for the feedback G450X, I appreciate it. I should maybe clarify a bit more. The deal is $7,000 for BOTH cars, '67 912 and '76 912E. I think for $7,500 to $8,000total I can get another 914 parts car and '66 912 thrown in the deal. The 914 has a 2.0L dual weber setup, so I may be able to use the engine/carbs. The '76 has a single carb setup... The '66 912 is mostly just a shell with transmission, but no engine (maybe a candidate for the 2.0L Type IV from the 914).
So I'm not really considering either/or car, I'm looking at maybe getting all four. This is purely fun empire expansion. I already have five P-cars, only one not running great. I have slow ('72 914 2.0L) to fast ('03 C4S), so I know what to anticipate with the 912E. I love the character of my 914 and it will cruise all day at 75 MPH. I'm thinking the 912E would make a great daily driver/beater car.
So the root question here is regarding the "value" of some old 912's supposedly in decent condition (not too much work to get them running, complete, relatively rust-free). Again, Excellence puts the value around $15K to $20K:
Excellence :: Buyers Guide : 912
That seems about double of what I see people actually asking for their 912s though! I just don't want to get into the position of buying a $3,500 car, putting $10,000 into it and then have an $8,000 car when I'm done. I'm not buying with just the intent of reselling, but I do still want to make a smart purchase decision....
