My goodness!
I've parted out many rust buckets, mostly to keep the parts I needed, and the rest to pay for the addiction.
I bought this 86 coupe for $8500. Got bored with it, kind of heavy, not as sharp or fun as my 73, even though it had a little 69 2.0 T motor putting our 110 on a good day. So I thought I could sell the T motor for $2K and sell the 86 for $12K (it was a really nice car!) and get a 3.0 or 3.2 for the 73 and have some real fun.
After trying to sell it for several weeks going down to $10.5K on one occasion, I decided that since I really wanted a 3.2, and this was a good motor, I'd just part the car out and keep the motor for the 73.
The net-net was I kept the motor, DME, entire oil system, entire fuel system, Al crossmember, keys and ignition and parted out the rest of the car for about $12K.
So if parted completely, it would have been closer to $20K. I have no idea why it didn't sell for $10.5K+. I figured it was good karma. The 73 rocks like I can't even describe! Just tons of fun!
