Back fill behind a short retaining wall. Worst thing about this is that there is no access and the soil has to be wheel barrow then carry in by buckets down about 20 steps. Its holding up a free standing deck about 20 inches off the ground.

the plate kind are cheap and I can even get one at Harbor Freight for about 500 bucks, then throw it away if it need be. I need to compact soil, so the jumping kind is necessary. My issue is the lack of room to store the soil. It has to go into the back of the house hand carry in with 5 gal. buckets. My concrete contractor smile at me when he quoted me the price. I need to fill 65' x 8' x 3-4' high. there are three sections. That's a lot of dirt. Even he suggested that I buy the compactor and have my men do it slowly without pissing off the neighbor blocking the street. I get all the fun ones. No complains here, just glad we are working.
