Years ago I walked up to a restrurant-bar and tried to enter. The guys at the door sniffed that patrons were required to wear a coat & tie. I was wearing a t-shirt & shorts!
I was a press photographer in those days so I had a sports coat and tie in the car. I had slacks but I did not put them on. I put on my coat and tie with my shorts and went back in. The place was mostly empty. I walked to the bar had one beer and left.
