I would look into getting that 6 foot 5/8ths brass tubing and chrome that to match the rest of the stuff. Even if it is a little off, I think the savings would be worth it. The towels will be hiding the bar anyway.
Just tell the kids that if they break the towel bar then they don't get a towel bar unless they fix it themselves. More money for the car!
