You were denied entrance on the basis of their dress code. I used to do it all the time when I worked doors. Some dress codes make a lot of sense, others not so much. The problem is that when a bar has a dress code, it has to be enforced uniformly or all hell breaks loose. I was Maitre 'd of a place 20 years ago that banned baseball caps and cell phones. If I let one guy in w/ a ball cap, all of the other guys with theirs in their back pockets were going to get real testy.
