I monitor my wife's website and can tell you that the majority (more than 2/3 of the hits) of the world seems to be stuck at 800x600 which is sad these days (next from that is 1024x768 at about 1/5). My guess is most people don't know how/why to change their resolution, but also many are probably working with really low-end hardware. When posting pics to something like this board it is probably best to consider 640x480 to be the max res.
