The M-14 was designed to shoot 147 gr. bullet, in matches we used 173 gr. bullets. But at that time we only used the 173 gr. at the 500 yard line, (1973-74). A steady diet of 173 gr. rounds will beat an M-14 to death.
I like to keep a few M-14's around.
