What you are stating is quite true, but with the front stand I use......and it is similar to Roadrash666's stand....I can still remove my front wheel.

On my old road race bikes, I built front stands that would plug in to the lower section where the steering hole was.
That lifted the front end and unloaded the suspension also.
Bikes with the Telelever are not so easy to make a stand for the front......I tried.
