Happens to me, too, with a lot of music I loved in my youth (admittedly far fewer years ago than your youth

).
Part of it is that I'm not so much interested in the "message" anymore, just the music. As I improve my musicianship - slowly - I've found that I'm more interested in the technical aspects than what the song does for me emotionally. Maybe I'm just dead inside.
