So, you want to turn your fan down so that your CPU over heats and eventually dies?
That sounds like an awesome plan.
I too have MBP and when I'm hitting the CPU hard the fan goes up. I use an app to monitor it and I can usually keep things normal by making sure my utilization is normal. Normally though it is a stray process that is causing the high CPU. The fan monitoring app provides me with a bit more information that just simply the sound of the fan. Check your activity monitor to see why the fan is spinning up while you're watching a DVD. It's usually related to a process that is hitting the CPU hard. IF it isn't the DVD and it is something else - troubleshoot that.
