Some voice control, text to speech, and dictation software will take care of this. Suppose you could simply tell your phone "read me that text" and then talk your reply back, without ever looking at the phone. Texting wouldn't be any different from a voice call or a conversation with a passenger, which most people - admittedly not all - can handle.
