My wife bought an A8 about 1.5 years ago. She got a '98 w/26K miles on it, Audi Assured (used warranty) from a dealer for $35K. That purchase was in 2001, so a car with about 8K miles/year dropped to about half it's original MSRP in 3 years. Ouch. The car now has 50K miles on it, and is probably worth low-mid $20s. Ouch again, but less ouch than the original owner. Very nice car...total luxo, gobs of torque, and the quaatro makes for pretty good handling on a heavy car. If you get one out of warranty though I suspect it could end up being pretty expensive. They are very complex cars. Hers will be out in 6 months or so and she's considering a swap, especially since she doesn't have to commute any more.
