Hmm, the Boxster doesn't have a clutch cable, so whomever told you that really has no idea what they are talking about. To me, it sounds like indeed, there is something wrong with the release of the clutch - maybe the clutch hydraulics need to be rebled. If the clutch is not disengaging, and you keep driving the car in this condition, then you will put a lot of wear on your transmission.
