That's the advantage of most Porsche motors...soft rings, hard cylinders and pistons, ie. new rings/quick fix. Cast Iron Chebbies are the opposite. Soft cylinders and pistons, hard rings. Requires bore and hone, new rings AND Pistons.

Had a Chevy Blazer with worn out 305. Bought an older Monte Carlo with a big valve 400 small block. Rebuilt the 400 as a stump puller with RV cam, intake, headers, etc. Block had to be bored to next oversize and honed, with new pistons, bearings and rings. Also had to have the heads ground and hardened seats installed as the motor was pre-unleaded gas. Took me 3.5 days to swap engines once the 400 was built up on the engine stand.

Sold the Monte Carlo sans motor for what I bought it for. And sold the 305 for the cost of rebuild and parts for the 400 including the intake and headers, seem to remember around $300, it's been since 1989. Was originally going to use a Holley double pumper but never could get it to run well. Had the Rochester 4bbl off the 400 rebuilt and it ran great.

After the swap the 12mpg blazer went to 19mpg with tons more power! The Blazer had a 4 inch lift and 32in radial mud tires. A very capable off roader.
