Burglary is not the real reason for the phone monitoring, It's FIRE dude. Besides, WHY would you pay for a monitored alarm system, then disconnect the monitoring connection?

If the phone line is disconnected the monitor company gets an alarm on the system. At least mine does. I guess it calls every so often to check in or something.

Same at my house with the land line. Except mainly use my alarm system for one of those "I've fallen and can't get up" pendant thingies for my Mom.
