I use it on the battery terminals.
All the black molding, etc... I have used a Multi-purpose Silicone Spray. The stuff that provides waterproofing and stops squeaks. It extends the life of non-metal surfaces and once applied and wiped, it really makes the plastic and rubber stuff look rich.
