In California, the whizzes in the legislature decided that "assault" rifles were bad and passed a ban on many name brands such as Colt, etc. Then the gun shops and manufacturers started selling parts so you could make your own and then they banned guns with "assault rifle characteristics". One of those is a removable magazine without a tool and that stumped folks for a bit and then a two piece mag release was invented so you can use a pointed ring or even a bullet (a tool) to push in the center and the mag comes out. It can easily be switched for a regular mag release for someone that buys the item.
A friend of mine in the SD County law enforcement told me that in the past 5 or 6 years the "assault rifles" that were taken from crime scenes and/or criminals, none were legally purchased and none were CA legal so that begs the question, why have the law since ..........Anyways, now you know.
