Massive - that thermostat seems to be faulty, and as it is already out replace it with a new one - they're not that expensive. When refilling the cooling system do try to have the front of the car up high as you bleed off the extra air through the bleed nut/plug (Early cars have a bleed plug in the upper hose where the later cars have a bolt/screw in the upper hose housing).
