Hounds sure like to wander if they are not kept properly contained. Some owners at some point in time say: See ya! After they bailed the dog out too many times at the shelter.
I always take strays in - tie them to the front of the house. If no info is on the collar, I call animal control and tell them to pick it up before I or anyone else in the family falls in love.

Not keeping her. I love dogs and will have another at some point but right now it just does not mesh well with our lifestyle.
She seems to be in good shape, nails are a bit long but otherwise seems well taken care of. Teeth and ears are clean. She looks a bit rough since she was soaked to the bone and needs a bath to get the rest of the mud off.
Problem with scent hounds, they catch a scent and they are off and don't look back. At least Bassets are relatively slow.
