Bass lines are not the issue. Obviously, MA's bass lines are easy for anyone to cover. But I'd suggest his backing vocals are every bit as much a part of the classic VH sound as is EVH's guitar. Everyone who saw the last tour in '07-'08 knows the backing vocals were piped in, ala Milli Vanilli, or they had someone backstage doing it with a mic. I don't want to dump on Wolfgang. I'd take that gig in a cocaine heartbeat too. But the kid has no band experience other than jamming at home with Dad and Uncle Al. He doesn't look like he's ever played out before and it detracts from the onstage chemistry.
BTW, back around the Fair Warning era, Ed wanted to fire Mike and offered the gig to Billy Sheehan. Billy turned it down because he also liked the classic VH sound just the way it was and didn't want to change it. Imagine what that would have been like.....before the trainwreck.
