I think any playoff system that counted on the fans attending more than a couple of games would be cost prohibitive imo. Making last minute travel arrangements, etc. during the holiday season isn't gonna happen on a large scale. Everything is a compromise, but I'm thinkin' the smaller the field 4 (maybe 8) teams, the better the odds of pulling it off. Now to be the devil's advocate, there is simply too much money involved in the current bowl format (including TV $). When 11 schools without winning records (this year) make big $, along with bowls, etc. I'm afraid it will remail a$ i$

ps: Why discriminate based upon regions when most of the SEC would whup the NE (for example) year in and year out. Maybe the SEC regular season is already a playoff system
