I would say your car is higher for 'whatever' reason; the PO may have simply wanted a better 'in-town' ride...
I do NOT know why an '88 had 15s and skinny tread, and 65 60??? Sounds odd at best. Not really the 'stock' setup, is it? Sounds more like a tire size change gone bad........go back to 55/50 and fix it?
Not having researched the CE, I still am surprised 16s were not standard.....I do think (purely personal) that 25.5 front, 25 rear is quite good, and comfy.
