No, I talked with the shop manager and we decided not to do it.
I don't exactly want to know what the numbers are. The motor doesn't burn any oil (it just was leaking out). The car had just passed smog easily. I've tried a couple other diagnostic driving tricks told to me by Porsche old-timers (the kind that have likely forgotten more than most of us will ever learn). The motor seems decently healthy.
I'll do the full-on rebuild at some time in the future. I just need to save up a bit so that it gets done with the proper mods, and not in piecemeal fashion.
Plus, I took a friend's 993 turbo out for a spin and that car's been on my mind since then.... (Is there a drooling smilie?) He wants to sell it at some time. 27K miles. Pulls like a train. Little lag. And as easy to drive as my Honda Civic.
