My 240Z went to Norway. I had it posted for several weeks in all the normal places, no one in the states bit. Once contacted by the buyer, the deal was closed in a couple of days. Then when I began shopping for a 911, one that I was considering was sold and bound for The Netherlands before I could see it in person.
That may be part of the issue as well, the Europeans don't seem to have a problem buying cars w/o seeing them first.
As noted above - this is part of today's global market. As long as shipping + purchase is less costly or delivers better product than buying local, this will happen.
