Looking at older suburbans. what to watch out for....

I am considering picking up an older suburban (mid to late 90s) on the cheap. I don't drive much for work anymore, and I'd like something with a lot of space to haul stuff/kids/etc...

Cheap is less than $3k, and for that price, I am looking at stuff with more than 130k miles.

I've never owned a GM product, and not sure exactly what to be on the look out for. Anyone have any hints/tips/insight? Any good web sites I should look into? With a car that old, what should I expect from the engine/trans? How's the electrical in those?

Thanks in advance.
