Gismo does not matter when you are facing the Italian Cowardice Chain of Command...
When the "captain" got on the bridge, he already had a bottle of wine in him. Normally in any other Navy (Mil or civilian) he would have been convince to leave at once or relieve of his function.
But the Italians with their "laisser faire" approach hoped that it would be lke last time and everybody would be fine
