Jeanette is getting long in the tooth...doubt you'd get her to go buff. Gotta admit, one pocket is a tough game to understand. More defense and planning than pocketing balls. One game can take hours, and they were playing until somebody got 6 games ahead. I gave up, went to bed around 1:00 AM. At that time, they were even.

Basics of one pocket is you have to sink all your balls in one pocket. First one to sink 8 wins the game. This means soft breaks, most of the shots being shots made to keep your opponent away from his pocket.

One funny pool yarn was a top player calling his backer.
"I got Mosconi saying he'll play one pocket. Back me for $2,000." The backer agrees.

An hour later, the player calls again, asking for another $2,000.

Backer: "I thought you said Mosconi doen't play one pocket."

Player: "He doesn't. He just smashes the cluster, then pockets 'em."

The key to pool is learning to control whitey (the cue ball) after your shot. Mosconi was the world's best at that. His record of 526 balls without a miss in straight pool still stands.
