Miata, no question. Have you tried sitting in one? If not, try it before you dismiss it. Cheap, easy to mod, cheap, easy to find parts for, well balanced, cheap, and decent power. Did I mention cheap?
I think a Miata might be a tad slow for an all-out race track, but for autocross I think it'd be awesome.
