I really like my 996(s), so I'm not biased against the newer models. But I wonder, how many times can they make the 911 bigger and more comfortable without losing the character that makes it special? More tech, electric power steering, etc seems contrary to the fundamental goal. Most reviews I've read report that it is in fact a more isolated car, Evo found that a new Carrera S had similar performance to a 997 GT3 but found the GT3 to be more fun. Where is the tipping point between performance and pure fun?
Of course, many say the same about the 996. In 10 years when they're cheap I'll give the 991 a shot.
