Try shooting a .22MAG! How many perps are 400 pounds? I'm shooting a .22LR through the M4 and it stops a standard size dog/coyote. But yep, the ability to easily put several rounds into the same target is GREAT!!!!

Sorry about the arthritis! I do like revolvers and 1911's best, but that is me.

There are some good DA revolvers, S&W (I usually do not like but that is my issue) makes some very fine DA revolvers with good trigger feel at a good price.

Glock and their ilk also have DA pistols that might work well. A GEN 3 or 4 G19 might be a good choice to look into. 15 round magazines are widely available and a 9mm is adequate. There are several other choices available.

I've seen both of the above go for far less than the $500.00 level. I'm sure there are some Pelicans near you who would let you try their pieces at a range. If you were close by you could come out and try in our backyard.
