My recently purchased 82 SC has never had much heat if any and I finally decided to investigate (its been a warm winter in Al.). All of the fans both engine compartment and front are working properly. Also it seems all the vents are operating as they are supposed to. I checked the vents controlled by the center levers and they also are operating correctly. I checked the air output at the vent system in the front with the car running and rear fan operating and felt a vacuum instead of warm air. When the engine was not running I could feel slight positive air movement out of the hose. Only when the engine was started did the vacuum begin.

When I checked furthe I noticed the Air vane on the back of the alternator that looks like it is designed to route air into the blower through the large hose coming out of the engine cover. Mine seems to be off by about 60 degrees. Can someone post a picture that shows hos this is supposed to be oriented. I have looked everywhere I can think of and cannot find a picture that shows this. I am thinking that if the fan would just blow air past the hose opening that would create a vacuum due to the venturi effect of air blowing perpendicular to the opening. The vane looks like it prevents that by taking a small portion of the fans air and routing it directly to the opening which has the hose that goes to the blower.

Please Help, I'm in northen Al. and it does get cold down here.
