Benjamin Bowden created ‘Spacelander’, the first electric bicycle, for the “Britain Can Make It” exhibition in 1946. The bike was equipped with a dynamo that stored the downhill energy and released it on uphill runs. Mr. Bowden worked as a designer for the British sports car companies and later helped improve the performance of the Ford Thunderbird, hence the conceptual and visual resemblances. These features made the Spacelander stand out back in the days, but still are relevant today.
