Yes...this car is a curious mix of early & late styling features. There's a myth of sorts circulating around in the Karmann Ghia community about a few "transition" lowlights ('56 thru '59) that escaped from the factory at the end of the model run with the larger tail lights of the up-coming new body style. As far as I know, there's no documentation to back up this story. Could this car be one of these mythical hybrids...who knows?
The asking price was $5,500 or best offer and it was sold to a buyer in Germany who's planning a full restoration on it.
The front, the dash, the doors and the engine bay are all lowlight. The tail light area is obviously not, but the guy who checked it out didn't see any evidence of welding on the car. More will be known once the car is stripped for restoration.
