Back to Tabs. I was drinking my favorite this am when I read your post. I prefer Dragonwell loose green. Very light and delicate. Lots of caffeine as well. It is called something else in the asian tea stores that I forget and need to point and buy. The tea lady just laughs.
The gun powder is about 180 degrees from Dragonwell. Gun powder is strong, rough, and cheap. I call it chinese no-collar tea as I think it is the tea of the poverty class. I still like it however.
The Pu Er is tough. My wife bought me a tea tasting a few years ago. We had a cup of tea that was a mistake. The guy said it was about a $45 cup of tea. I personally disliked it. I think Pu Er tastes like dirt. However, he said that Pu Er is like wine. Older is more money. LOTS more. I have bought small and large compressed disks of Pu Er at different shops but never the good stuff. I think that stuff is only sold in niche businesses.
There are some cool tea stores in San Francisco Chinatown. Not super far from you. It is fun to shop and taste. My tastes are relatively cheap as well.
Have fun.
