If you're lucky enough to get a car that does not have these two issues and lucky enough that the previous owners took good car of the car, then yes, 300,000 miles is possible. And there are definitely some high mile cars like that out there. However, I would say, most are not.
A shop who knows what they are doing and looking for, can do a PPI and tell you whether or not you have worn guides (probably with 85% certainty). An oil analysis can tell you whether you have worn bearings.
