Garage
I just suck it up and pay. I can either complain about it and not drive the Porsche, or fill the nearly 20 gallon tank (ouch) and have a smile on my face every time I put the key in the ignition. It is the price you pay to drive what you want. We could all go out and buy Geo Metros that average 40mpg, but that just doesn't do it for me...

I personally think $5.00 a gallon gas is needed in this country to turn our crazy land use development decisions around. For too long we have been building in a "drive until you qualify" mode that pushes development to the urban fringe where land is relativey cheap. This ultimately has the effect of incraesing infrastructure costs, and strain on small suburban communitie who have builot budgets around booming land development, and who are now struggling to pay for what has been built due to the bust in new housing starts, and subsequently the drop in impact fee collections.

Perhaps that is just the Urban Planner in me, but I look forward to high gas costs. Fewer drivers, and hopefully a push towards more transit options and infill development. Our grandchildren will thank us when we were forced to keep a few acres of open space which will eventually be necessary to feed ourselves off of...
