If you have the patience you can do a pretty good job tidying the wiring without covering everything up.

Mine was a disgrace so I decided to pull all the wiring out without cutting cables and wrapped in a matte cloth tape, making sure to wrap it evenly and in the same direction (this way it is easier to unwrap if necessary). I wrapped it in such a way to leave about 2mm so that the color coding of the wiring was still visible. I also grouped the wires according to the destination/device and in some cases re-routed the wires to look less like the bowl of spaghetti my wife is cooking for me tonight.

Strategically placed cable ties tuck the wires away nicely. I found this made a huge difference to the aesthetics without hopefully giving myself or any future owner a headache trying to troubleshoot electrical issues
