On my 85 I'm running Panamera 18x9-43 offsets on the rear with the factory spacer. So if the spacer where removed I should be able to go to a 9 in wheel with 22 offset. Would seem to me that if you're looking at an 8 in wheel no spacer would allow for a 9mm offset wheel. So you shouldn't have any issues with the 23 mm offset 944 rims on the back. Should actually even be able to add a spacer to push them out a bit if you really want the wells to look full.
Front's a different story. I believe 52 mm is the limit there.
