A wheel service in MN used to cut two 6" Fuchs and weld them together to make a 10" Fuchs wheel for an earlier 911. I believe the wheels were over $1000 usd for two wheels several years ago. They were almost useless/priceless/worthless for resale.

1986.5 Turbo 944 w/ 16x9 Fuchs (older 23.3 offset altho this wheel was a larger ET (I can not remember; maybe 60) system. The nine inch was an 8" Fuchs (which is a seven w/ 1 inch to the outside) with an inch toward the inside. (Sorry for the confusion)

To run a newer 1987 (PhoneDial, forged or pressure cast slotted, D-90 or 996 type wheel) add a 20+mm hub centric spacer off eBay from the guy in Reno Nevada and the system is converted to a newer 53.3mm ET.
You might find the D-90 in 16x9. Then run a D-90 8" in the front.
If you remove the OEM 21mm spacer could you run a -86.5 wheel? Then the only wheel MIGHT be the Fuchs 16x9 1986.5 Turbo for about $700 each and the same for a front in 8". That is the wheelset i have on a 1986.5 NA 944. Fills in perfect on F& R

Other wise you might keep the 21mm OEM and ADD a 20 mm spacer to accommodate the newer ET. This depends on the 911/944/928 conversuin and the 928 ET
Wouldn't it be more cost effective to purchase four matching wheels with the correct ET? You would have staggered 9/8 wheels that match each other and the style of the car. A "Twist non OEM" wheel in aftermarket is 9/8 it fills the fender and it fits.

What I have concluded so far (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

The dished ones are from 944's from years 86 and earlier, as far as I know these have a 23.3mm offset that stick out 55mm more than my current rims... but also have 29mm more clearance on the inside.

The 81-84 928 (unfortunately mine is a 79 model) have a longer stud with a factory 21mm spacer, removing the spacer and using open lug nuts will mean the earlier 'lipped' wheels will just fit under the guards

Good spotting Riber, that car is identical to how I would like my 928 to look, it's even silver! Even though the author wasn't able to help me with offset etc they did confirm that the car was definitely running dished 944 rims. I think the car must have been a 81-84 model as mentioned above.

Another option is to get 3 piece autostrada monza's like these!

Modifying a set of dished 944 rims would be ideal for both handling and perfect fit, I'm going to take my car down to these guys: extensivewheelservices.com.au who recon they might be able to widen the existing wheels without me having to do any modifications to guards etc. Good point though Danglerb, I hadn't even thought about getting tyres yet!

Thanks again for your help!
