Davetr, The speedo not working is either the sensor on the very rear of the transmission that may just be dirty or loose. Next try the connector just in front of the spare in the right corner of the spare tire compartment. If not fixed it's the speedo connections, or the speedo itself. That connects the sensor to the trans. The fuel guage is the sending unit that I explained above unless it's the combination of that and other contacts. The fact that you said it worked for a second kinda says it's the rear trans sensor. At least in my experience it does.
