Small wonders of the modern world
Though it isn't late November, I'd like to pause to give thanks:
1. For less than four bucks, I can get a gallon of miraculous fluid that will push 3,000 lbs of expensive German metal on wheels 15 or 20 miles down the road - and my fat ass doesn't even have to push.
2. At 7:30 pm on a Saturday night, I can drive to Advance Auto and get correct o-rings for the Bosch injectors on my 1986 Porsche 928.
Back story on #2 there - since I had done all the resurrection work on my 928, it has been smelling gassy. Assuming it was something to do with the tank sealing and was just vapor, I didn't sweat it and added it to the list. While doing a big ignition overhaul last Saturday (plugs, wires/ends, rotors, caps), I happened to notice the gassy smell under the hood (uh oh) and that my #1 injector was wet. Weak sauce! I pulled the rail and sure enough, the o-ring had a neat, thin little slice taken out of it. Damnit....I must have bodged the install when I got 'em back from Witchhunter. But no kidding, the first parts store I called had 'em in stock. I bought enough to redo the whole rail. I'm sure that same injector seal has about 500 different applications other than the 928, but I still thought it was awesome.
