A few years back--it's still there-there appeared a comparison test of air filtration on the IBMWR website. Some version of K-bike.
Compared for airflow and consequently power changes were
stock filter
stock filter half blocked off
no filter
K&N
The test found ZERO differences.
BMW's middle name ain't "motor" for nothing.
As regards K&N, there are no positives and there is the possibility of negatives. Especially if your required filter is rectangular and not a circle around a 4-barrel.
Of course thinking there's a performance "miracle" for $50 is a little silly, too.
