This is a long shot, but I've seen it cause a similar problem.

Start - right click Computer - Manage - Device Manager
right click the network adapter
Go to the Power Management tab
Uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

See if it gets any better, if not, it's at least ruled out.
