Most people don't use the O2 sensor once they go to aftermarket headers. They set the AFR with a Gunson gas tester, LM1, etc.
Another thing I did was plugged the aftermarket bung and welded in a bung after the turbo. I did this based on the advice of others, but the idea was if any part of the O2 sensor broke free it would go through the turbo destroying it.
