I was 15.

We lived in the coastal mountains near Newbury Park, California.

The roads to the our place were all private, dirt roads. We were about two miles off the asphalt. I learned to drive our '58 El Camino manure truck when I was 12/13. Three on the tree, Ba Bee.

My parents let me put my bike in the back of the Camino and drive to the end of the dirt road, park and ride to friends houses, school, etc.

I decided one night to take my girlfriend, Ms. Aquino, to the drive-in theater in Newbury Park, right near Stage Coach Liquors and the elementary school, just off 101.

I told my parents I was going to Steve's house, be back around 10 o'clock.

So I drove to Westlake (which was a new development at the time) on 101, picked the divine Ms. A up, drove back to NP and took in the movie.

I have no recollection of the movie.

Drive-ins were great.

Edit: The first drive-in movie I went to was Breakfast at Tiffany's with the family in 1961. Great stuff...pulled the truck in backwards: blankets, snacks and fun.
