The only thing you want to do to the air box is remove the snorkel that goes through the front fender. You should be able to take it out of the shoulder fitting at the air box. Any other mods might look hot but are a waste of money.

Don't mess with anything else on the intake or you will screw up the electronic fuel injection system.

I didn't say the pistons are turbo pistons. The turbos are dished at the top to reduce the compression. Now these just might have the same rings as the turbos but I don't know.

The rods on the 83's are the same as the turbos as is the crank and the block. The heads have ceramic lined exhaust ports because of the higher temps of the exhaust gasses. I think the turbo cam has a different timing too.

If you have $3,000 you can make the 2.5 L engine into a plus 3 L screamer without the turbo. Or for double that you can just buy a 944 turbo (a 951) and keep the 83 as a back up car.

By the way when was the last time the timing belt was changed? If you don't know change it NOW!
