I don't believe that rum ages in the bottle, so if it was good rum when it was bottled, it should still be good rum, unless the integrity of the seal was broken at some point and some nasties got in. I think liquor ages in the cask, but once it's bottled, it's as good (or bad) as it's ever going to get. At least this is my understanding of it...
